Thoughts of Freedom

Written and produced by Papa Hardy for the late Great Aunt Mary of Amsterdam, Holland, philanthropist supporting protection of the historical Dutch buildings, protection of the wild birds in Northern Holland, and donor of the world’s largest foster child program. Great Aunt Mary’s husband was the president of the Dutch Supreme Court for 40 years, through two world wars and part of the Dutch underground during both wars.

Thoughts of Freedom
Written for my Great Aunt Mary Mme. Van Der does Der Willebois-Ingenhaus while sitting in the bay window of her Amsterdam, Holland home in 1970
by Papa Hardy

If I look sad and I seem helpless when we’re alone
And we share one small sigh between us
Please don’t feel bad; I am not far away from you
I’m only deep in thoughts of freedom

If you ask me why I’m feeling down
I might find an answer when you’re not around
So if we just pretend to know nothing at all
Then we will love and sigh with freedom

If words come wrong better to listen to how we feel
And we can hear more truth in silence
Instead of words let us come closer in mind and deed
Then we’ll be deep in thoughts of freedom

If you ask me why I’m feeling down
You might find an answer when I’m not around
So if we just decide to say nothing at all
Then we’ll laugh and cry with freedom

If you ask me why I’m feeling down
There might be an answer
Where answers can’t be found
So if we just decide to say nothing at all
Then we’ll laugh and cry
We’ll love and we’ll sigh
We’ll live and die for freedom
