While leaving the groundbreaking ceremony, I wrote the the Care for Peace song while Ko Hla Kyi, co-founder of the Care for Peace Foundation, and I drove on an overnight journey from r on the way to the airport. When I returned to California I searched and found two organizations that might help craft and sing the song so that we could send the resulting youtube videos to the children of the village to sing at the grand opening.
I was fortunate to have Jan Peterson’s Marin Choir in Mill Valley, California, be the first group of children to sing the song. Also, Stevie Greenwell, Choir Director of the Marin School of the Arts Advanced Treble Choir took up the challenge and subsequently presented the song at one of their presentation ceremonies.
When we returned to Pantawpyin, the children were prepared, and I was able to be the conductor as they sang the song for the village ceremony of our Care for Peace.
The final production of the Care for Peace Song by the Marin School of the Arts Advanced Treble Choir on May 17, 2016.
In November 2015, Jeff wrote the song on a drive from Kyaukphyu, Rakhine State, to the southern airport 200 miles away. Jeff heard singing at a Zat Pwe event (a night time celebration in a remote village) and subsequently came up with the tune and lyrics.
The first choir to sing the song was Jan Peterson’s Marin Choir in Mill Valley, California.
The Care for Peace Song
Hold my hand and walk with me
From the mountains to the sea
On the way we’ll meet some friends
Who want to sing with you and me
To care for peace
To care for peace
Children singing everywhere
Can’t we all live peacefully
All we have to do is care
Just the way you care for me
To care for peace
To care for peace
Tell me what I need to know
Show me what I need to see
Give me something I can do
For children just like you and me
With children just like you and me
To care for peace
To care for peace
Someone taught me long ago
Something I should understand
Who you are is what you give
With your heart and with your hands
To care for peace
To care for peace
Tell me what I need to know
Show me what I need to see
Give me something I can do
For children just like you and me
With children just like you and me
To care for peace
To care for peace
To care for peace
